Sunday Scaries 1: Bitcoin to the Moon!?
Good morning and Happy Sunday!
Here’s your weekly roundup to help you get through those Sunday Scaries:
- Is the Bitcoin Bull back? (Bitcoin ETF)🐂
- What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas (CES Con)😏
- Chat are we ok? (Twitch Layoffs)😨
- OpenAI Open For Business? (Chat GPT Store)🤑
Is the Bitcoin Bull back? 🐂
For any of you not familiar with Finance bro terms (me before 10 minutes ago) a Bull market in the investing world means a spike in lots and lots of money. i.e. Bitcoin back in 2020 when its shares went from $20k to about $63k.
Although since then the Bitcoin Bull has been tamed, all the way down to around $40k. But you better call your local matador cause this puppy’s about to get kickin’ again.
Or is it…
Bitcoin ETF might be a term you’ve heard a lot this past week and for good reason as it could go down as a monumental decision for the future of cryptocurrency and web3
In summary, what this ETF does is it allows investors to put money into cryptocurrency through channels they’re used to (certain accounts and stock markets) instead of using a crypto exchange. This allows many investors that might be apprehensive about crypto to get their feet wet in web3 investment
11 Bitcoin ETFS were approved from several different companies (Most notably Blackrock, Fidelity, Grayscale) and billions of dollars are expected to be dumped into them
So is the bull market back??? In short not yet, in fact Bitcoin itself has come down about 3% in the last week, but this is still expected to be an important landmark in the future of cryptocurrency investment
(This was a very surface level summary look forward to a deep dive into Bitcoin ETF later this week)
What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas 😏
Ah the many reasons to go to Vegas: parties, concerts, casinos, just the pure bliss of seeing GTA in real life…
or if you’re like me (and many other tech nerds) the thrill of seeing a bunch of new tech I’ll never buy!
CES Conference 2024 took place last weekend. If you don’t know what CES is, it’s one of the biggest tech conferences of the year where companies come to showcase their most innovative tech coming soon.
Rabbit R1 is the biggest success story to come out of the con this year. Rabbit R1 is an AI assistant that uses voice technology to help you connect and use apps across several devices. Sounds cool! but its also $200 (not cool!). But what do I know, they sold out all 10,000 of the copies they have and their entire second order as well. Here’s a good video if you want to see how it works: How Rabbit’s R1 Can Change the Way We Interact with AI (youtube.com)
Here’s some other cool things seen at CES this year:
- Birdfy: High tech birdfeeders/houses (Birdfy’s Debut at CES 2024: Unveiling Innovative Solutions for Smart B)
- Ballie: Samsungs cute new house companion (A Day in the Life With Ballie: An AI Companion Robot for the Home – Samsung US Newsroom)
- Afeela: Sony x Honda = cool car (Sony’s Afeela needs to be more than a feeling (msn.com))
- LGs entire booth: they went hard this year (LG CES 2024 | LG Global)
There’s lots of awesome videos on youtube about the con too so make sure to look into that!
(Look forward to my deep dive on CES 2024 coming later this week)
Chat Are We Ok??? 😨
The tech industry has been struggling with layoffs over the past year and 2024 is looking to continue this trend
“Twitch will be my first victim😈” -2024 (probably)
Twitch is starting 2024 off with a bang! or should we say collapse?
35% of Twitch employees are being laid off as the Twitch CEO stated the company isn’t profitable
MGM Studios and Prime Video are also expecting hundreds of layoffs soon. The one common trend between all the companies mentioned is that they’re Amazon owned
Google is also expecting hundred of layoffs in their Hardware department
“When will the suffering end!” -I say as a very concerned college student that will soon be looking for a job
OpenAI Open For Business? 🤑
OpenAI took the world by storm last year with ChatGPT and single handedly saved the college careers of several desperate students (definitely not me)
What’s the next step for ChatGPT as we begin 2024?
OpenAI has created their own version of the App Store. Here developers from the Chat GPT community can post “GPTs” which are basically AI apps that can be downloaded and used to do various things. They’ve also claimed creators will be compensated for their work (Awesome!) but haven’t specified how this will be done.
Here’s examples of some popular GPTs:
- Consensus: Helps you search through thousands of research papers to help with your own papers
- Logo Creator: Creates professional logos based off prompts
- Grimoire: Advertised as being able to create a website (or anything) using only a sentence. To that I say “Sure bud🤔”
Here’s a link to the GPT site so you can explore some other GPTs: Explore GPTs (openai.com)
